ARTIST STATEMENT
My work examines the tenuous spectrum that exists within interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships. There is no fixed state of being, only a constant transition from one identity, individual, or idea to another. We are always developing, changing, and in a state of becoming. My work is an attempt to exist within and understand this uncomfortable and transformative domain.
My process reflects the flux and fluidity of these relationships as I see them in my life. I often start with one image from a general stock source that symbolizes both a fixed identity and a falsehood. The image is then printed, altered, scanned, designed, printed again, painted on, scanned again and on and on until that initial image dissolves. This new entity is not quite formed but it shows evidence of a struggle and continuous evolution; signs of truth and authenticity. Like me, the my work is on a continuum, transitioning from one form to a new and hopefully, but not assured, more honest version of its former self.
